Totally new to cyber — is Security+ really the right first step?

Coming from a sysadmin role. CISA assumes audit experience I don't have. Is self-study enough to bridge that?
Eyeing CND before applying to SOC roles. Does it carry weight, or should I go straight for Security+ / SC-200?
